Residency Program
Studies show that institutions with residency programs improve patient outcomes. At Regional Care Group, we believe the presence of residents in our network of care brings new ideas and techniques to the fore, helping patients, providers, and other health care staff members.
Graduate Medical Education
Regional Health Systems, a Regional Care Group member, offers a psychiatry residency program in Merrillville with the Indiana University School of Medicine. The accredited four-year program works in partnership with members of the Regional Care Group and the Northwest Indiana Graduate Medical Education Consortium.
The psychiatry residency program trains new psychiatrists to better care for underserved populations and people with mental illness in Northwest Indiana. Residents will complete rotations in all areas of psychiatry, including inpatient psychiatry, addictions, child and adolescent mental health care, primary care and more.
This holistic approach gives the next generation of psychiatrists an opportunity to develop integrated models of care while increasing access to psychiatric services within underserved communities. Regional Health Systems’ community mental health setting provides residents with the rare opportunity to follow patients throughout their care and gain expansive knowledge of treatments for lifetime psychiatric illnesses.
